When you vaccinate your pet, you protect them from highly contagious animal diseases. Diseases like leptospirosis and rabies can even be spread to humans. In fact, rabies vaccination is required by law. At Central Pet Care, we provide our patients in Carthage and surrounding areas with lifestyle specific pet vaccinations in addition to essential “core” vaccinations. As a loving pet owner, we’ll discuss when your pet should be vaccinated and suggest a schedule of care.
We Provide Core and Noncore Vaccinations
All dogs and cats who visit Central Pet Care receive essential “core” vaccinations every pet should be protected with. Because of vaccination technology, we’re able to administer “core” vaccinations to both cats and dogs through only one booster, not including rabies vaccination. This single booster protects dogs from four diseases and cats from three diseases.
Core” vaccines for dogs include:
- Distemper
- Hepatitis
- Parainfluenza
- Parvovirus
“Core” vaccines for cats include:
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis
- Calicivirus
- Panleukopenia
- Rabies
Depending on how active your pet is outside your home or how many other pets they’re exposed to, we may recommend additional vaccinations. If you travel with your dog to certain parts of the country we may advise you to protect them from Lyme or leptospirosis. If your cat frequently roams outside, we may recommend they receive protection from feline leukemia.
Timing Your Pets Vaccinations
While puppies and kittens are nursing from their mother’s milk, they receive powerful antibodies that help protect them from viruses and diseases. Their bodies are growing big and strong as they’re weaned from mother’s milk, but their immune systems are not. Because puppies and kittens are especially susceptible to viral and bacterial diseases, it’s important to schedule your new bundle of fur with us the moment you bring them into your home. That way, we can examine them from nose-to-tail, but also administer their first round of pet vaccinations. Ideally, this should be during your pet’s first few months of life. Then, we’ll schedule your pet for a series that should be administered every three to four weeks apart. Please remember incomplete vaccinations give your pet incomplete protection from dangerous diseases. After a new puppy or kitten series is complete, we’ll schedule your pet for maintenance vaccinations everyone or three years.
